The Old Testament - Jesus' Bible
Obviously the New Testament had not been written during Jesus' earthly
ministry.
But Jesus did have a Bible- the Jewish Scriptures - the Old Testament.
What did Jesus think about the Bible as he had it?
Which books were included? Which weren't?
There are various things Jesus said that help us think through these
questions. In particular, it's easy to answer part of these questions by
looking at Jesus' quotes from the Old Testament. He quotes from all five
books of the Law, from two of the four major prophets and five of the twelve
minor prophets, he also quotes many Psalms. Some examples from Matthew's
gospel are listed below. There are many more quotes from these books in
Matthew, and still more again in the other gospels.
